Another wet morning. At 10am I set out with Maori in cart with a load of wire etc for the North Block. Got up in 1 h[ou]r 50min[ute]s. Took down the old shed + wire-netting alongside Gladstone R[oa]d near Narby's floodgate + carted material to stable. Got several loads of timber from flat by kopje + carted to stable. Counted cattle on Mill p[addock] but could not see the missing bullock on the hills. Drove home in 70 minutes. Aunt Kate + Aunt Ethel + baby arrived to spend a few days. Desperate fighting between Neiuport and Ypres continued. The Germans breaking the Alies [sic] twice but finally thrown back again. Reported that Austria proposes to abandon Germany. The Germans have assumed command of Constantinople. Death of Field-Marshall Lord Roberts.
