Father, Gil, Dick and I rode up to North Block & continued cutting track thro' "1st" "burn" on hilltop. Dick and I finished

cutting a post length out of the big hinau log while the others went on clearing + piling into heaps. The track runs along the main ridge of the hilltop quite close to the east bdy [boundary] fenceline to which it will joined [sic] by shoprt side tracks - side tracks will also run westward from the main down each of the spurs. We got through about 5 chains + stopped at the huge mass of tangled up birch logs which I photographed some time back. After work we mustered the ewes + lambs in Leighton p[addock] down into Mill p. Also put 2 big bullocks in Mill p. Very successful day. Sea fight off Dutch coast - 4 German destroyers sunk by British. Germans occupy Ostend. French re-occupy Altkirch in Alsace. Huge battle in south Russian Poland - Germans defeated - 4000,000 troops engaged.
