Drizzly foggy day. Worked in CK p[addock] – stumping + levelling. After work finished battening my tree fence in near 42. In Belgium a great battle is still raging between the allies + German forces along the lower course of the River Sambre. Germans guilty of many atrocities. Japan bombards the German forts at Kaio-chow in China. East Prussia swept by the Russian army – Germans retreat in disorder. Lord Kitchener delivered a most reassuring speech in the House of Lords.
