Overview
Wed Aug 12
Deluge of rain all day. Moved “old” ewes from far to back 42 leaving those with lambs (almost 20) in far 42. Anstice + I started splitting battens but rain came on too heavily. Terrible war news, from German point of view.

Thousands were killed during their onslaught on the forts around Leige – their officers drove the reluctant men up to the attack on the guns which mowed them down columns at a time. The German wounded were in the fields for two days in torrential rain without food. The French advanced into Alsace as far as Colmar.
