Threatening morning but rode up to Ohau Summit + strained up second section (down Ohau slope) of east b[oun]d[ar]y [?] fence. This was more awkward than yesterdays work + took us a long time. Finished wires to top of span [?] beyond Balten Creek. Spent an hour sawing + removing a log lft across line. Stopped work 2.50 pm. On arrival at home, found Harry [illegible] Batman had arrive to stay night - this is his yearly holiday. Mother, Clare + I drove town to party + dance at Mr J. C. Neil's, Village Settlement. A very select company assembled. My niceset partners were Miss McLeavey, Mrs McKenyee [?] + Mrs Park. Mrs Dr. [?] Bryson was the finest lady present, possessing a supple + beautiful figure. Very pleasant evening - everything well arranged. Supper decent - left at midnight. On return home wrote a post-card to Maud.
