Anstice + I again up to North Block - we cut scrub on track from Gladstone Road to main entrance gate of "Leighton p[addock]" until Jim arrived at 11 am + then we mustered my ewes + rams off "Leighton p." in one hour (Mother went to W[ellin]gton to-day)
[page break]
Saw a very large area of pig rooting on top of high level terrace at foot of "Trunk spur". Dinner on the river-bed - drove sheep up to Mr. Styles' yards + earmarked the 210 (less 2 missing) Cornford ewes + re-[raddled?] all the sheep. The 7 rams in fine order + very active - most of the ewes in splendid condition. Left the sheep in yards for the night for tipping. After work I investigated the swamp on S[outh] E[ast] side of old mill site + found that it will require three parallel drains running N[orth] + S + about a chain apart [map sketch here] PLAN PART OF MILL PADDOCK Spent evening with my darling Maud in the drawing room + had our last talk She returns home tomorrow, alas.
