breakfast Mr Edwards paid us a visit. Made sledge chains + used old "Maori" (left up with cart for our use) for sledging 18 posts to Kay's + my boundary fence which is to run along the narrow strip of land nearly encircled by the Makahika River. Cut a line through the bush on this strip of land for the fence which starts at the end of a fence kay has erected from near the Gladstone Road to the west boundary of North block + terminates at the black pool under the cliff below the "Ohau Flat" Carried out our own posts + 17 of Kay's, getting all in position - the length of this fence will be about 9 chains. Having no diging tools we had to stop this job at 1.45 pm + sledged posts for short road-side fence near old entrance gate till 3.15. Put in rest of afternoon clearoing flat near whare for sheep-yards + a track to big shed (stable), putting sawn timber (old tram rails etc) on latter till rain
