Heavy rain during night and until about 6.30. My last day in Buckle St Barracks. Up at 4.45 am – handed in borrowed horse but bought two black military blankets at 5/- each. Then to “war office” for pay – received 10/- per day £8 for the 16 days on duty as “special constable” – this

time includes down and homeward journeys. Breakfast at 6 + left Barracks at 7 am. Rode to Lambton Station + trucked horses – carried own gear to [sic] and entrained at the Manawatu Station. Left by the 9.25 am slow train – Levin at 1.10 pm.
