Overview
Sat Nov 8
Up early – instead of bath on horse-line used a hose in basement of Garrison Drill Hall. Wrote Maud + home + sent them copies of “Free Lance” with photos of strike + special constables. Paraded at 8.30 – rode to wharves – no bad language en route – rather slow day but filled in time with novel “Arsene Lupin” by Edgar Jepson + Maurice Le Blanc. Very rough dinner in open air in Custom H[ouse] Quay. Two arrests during day. Left wharves at 5.30 – more fun in Tory St – a “special” in No. 2, Troop “F” squadron chased a ruffian down College St – the man took refuge in house – several “specials” dismounted, entered house + hauled him out + handed him over to police – great excitement for a while. A concert was held in the Garrison Hall in the evening – songs John Prouse, “Teddy” Hill, Kenny, Twiss, etc. Hector McDonald gave some comic recitations which broke up crowd. Colonel Newall
