Jim + I rode up to North Block to continue cutting east boundary fence line. We each carried a half cwt [hundredweight] coil of barb wire up my graded track – very rough on horses – reached rata on Ohau Summit in 20 minutes from “Dirty Flat”. Cut through scrub from rata-tree to fenceline + worked along it southwards to the deviation where I stopped work Oct 7 cutting a strip about ¼ chain wide on tree line of block 13°30’0”. We then returned to opposite rata + worked northwards doing

About 6 chains altogether. Heavy showers during morning + pelting rain at midday – we worked on through it + got

wet through. The scrub was very hard cutting – large trees + matted with supple jack. Jim worked well. Father went up to Palmerston sale + bought 48 3yr to 5yr store bullocks at £5.18.0.
