Mustered the 360 lambs off rape + drafted out 144 of the poorer ones + put them on grass in far 42 ready to be taken [to] sale on Friday; the remaining 216 good forward lambs we put back on second cut of rape in near 42 for few days when they will go on rape in Little Meadow. Jones dipped 49 lambs + Uncle Bert 233 lambs + rams. We dipped 95 6-tooth + cull ewes. In evening cycled down

Received a letter + referee’s report from Dr Chilton, Editor “Trans[actions of the] NZ Inst[itute], on my paper on Tararuas = “my theories based on too slender evidence and debatable evidence + also in part erroneous (? GLA). I decided to withdraw the paper as it is evidently unsuitable for publication in “Transactions” – rather a blow to me as I feel that my geological ideas are rather upset – however I still stick to all my theories re the Tararuas.
