George Leslie Adkin diary entry Thursday 6 March 1913

Topic

Overview

Thurs March 6

Father + I mustered the “young” ewes (of last season) to cull.  Drafted into culls good Romney 4-tooths for UR, + 6-tooth rather Lincolny [sic] ewes for future “medium” lot – did not finish job.  Mr Kay used the cattle-yards for branding cows + calves.  After dinner Father + I took the 202 store wethers up to the North Block.  Left at 2.15 – reached Makahika ford at 5 – tried to cross them at South end – dragged five across but couldn’t get others to follow – then tried them over footbridge used by mill-hands – they started but jumped into river – gave up job at 6.45 leaving them on flat just inside gate.  Developed 10 more plates of holiday trip – fair results.
