Tues July 1
Crutched the 69 6/6 hoggarts – very dirty + difficult job. In evening Ida Daniell, Clare (as Spanish girl), Dora (as Jap[anese] girl) + self (as Mephistopeles) drove down to skating carnival. A great affair for Levin – about 35 fancy dresses some very good indeed – great crowd of spectators including Maud – grand march, sports, + skating competitions. At half time went up into audience to see Maud, she looked grand being flushed with excitement, its just the thing for her. Appreciative comments on my costume by various [sic] of the crowd. I took 1st place for costume + also Miss Phyllis Wilson first (in ladies class) as “Bluebird”. A good evenings sport.
