Hybridisation in Pseudopanax

Topic

Overview

Despite looking very different, lancewood (Pseudopanax crassifolius) and coastal five-finger (P. lessonii) hybridise frequently.  Hybridisation occurs both in the wild and in cultivation.

The hybrids appear to be fertile, and back-crossing leads to a multitude of forms intermediate to the parents.
