Overview
In January 2018, Research Scientist Heidi Meudt, and Collection Manager Antony Kusabs made botanical collections from the following places:
- Matiri Range, Kahurangi National Park
- Hummock Peak, Eyre Mountains
- Glacier Burn, Humboldt Mountains
- Wye Valley, The Remarkables
- Ida Range
- Awakino Ski Field, St Marys Range
- Ohau Snow Fields
- Mt Dobson Ski Field
- Clarence Valley and Jollies Pass
They were joined in their search at different places by Manaaki Whenua - Allan Herbarium Plant Systematist Jessie Prebble, DoC Scientists John Barkla and Brian Rance, and Botanists Mike Thorsen, David Lyttle, Hugh Wood, David Toole, Neill Simpson and Barbara Simpson.
Twenty-four populations of 12 native Myosotis species were located. A herbarium specimen and leaf samples for DNA research were collected for each species to help address key research questions as part of Te Papa's Myosotis research program.
Other indigenous and naturalised species were also collected as part of general Te Papa collection development to improve our knowledge of what grows where in New Zealand.
