Overview
Felton Mathew was New Zealand's first Surveyor General arriving on board the H.M.S. Herald with Captain Hobson in January 1840.
Some of the most significant entries in the diary relate to the background and actual signing of The Treaty of Waitangi and subsequent events surrounging that signing.

From that dateit appearsthe diary had several subsequent owners or authors.
