Overview
Fri. Feb. 13.
Lovely fine day. Had a yarn with young Mr Waters + his brother-in-law, Mr White. (A. H. White, 26 Limerick St. Palmerston N.) who live 5 doors south of us, + borrowed their telescope in order to make an accurate sketch of Mana, + this I successfully accomplished. I also interviewed Mr Frank Thomson who lives 4 sections south of MCK’s – he has dug a well 18 ft deep, 6 through sand + 12 into the rock beneath (the raises shore-platform ) – about 15 gals of good sweet water accumulates in 24 hrs [hours] + Mr Thomson believes that if left for a fortnight 12 feet of water would accumulate. The source of the water seems to me to be the swampy valley of the Tapu Creek – the water soaks through the fissures in the narrow

dividing ridge of bottom greywacke + is purified in the process. At 2 p.m. I took 1/2 pl. [ate] camera + walked up nearly to crest of the ridge of hills to the east of Tapu Creek - photo (84),(85) 1/2 pl. pan[orama] of Mana + Porirua Harbour +c +c. Made an outline sketch of Plimmerton, lower Tapu Valley, "sledge track" ridges of hills, entrance Porirua Harbour, Mana + South Island. Photo (86) 1/2pl. of peneplane surface at eastern foot of coastal ridge from same spot. Home to tea at 6:20 p.m. Maud + I went for an evening stroll – visited Dora's Cottage + found George Broomfield had arrived + Ronald + Clif had returned home. Visited an ice cream shop.
