Overview
At least 30 species of liverworts, 23 species of mosses, and 11 species of lichens are present on the Snares. An update on this speices number will be provided in future. One new moss record was made on the expedition: Tayloria purpurascens.
There is a greater number of bryophyte species than vascular species on the Snares Islands, but as for the flowering plants and ferns, species abundance is still limited by exposure to the elements, high rate of disturbance from birds and marine mammals, and also the low rate of colonisation from foreign sources.
A number of bryophyte and lichen collections were made and those that were photographed are shown below.
