Overview
Leslie Adkin is a farmer in the Horowhenua region, and manages two properties near Levin. He also works with his father William and their labourer George Bloomfield on the family farm, Cheslyn Rise. Farming activities this month include fencing, laying pipe-drains, mustering, crutching, and attending stock sales.
Leslie lives with his wife Maud at 'Woodside,' a newly-built homestead on one of Leslie's properties. This month Maud spends two weeks in Hastings with her family, and on the 11th Leslie writes that he had the 'Blues all day on acc[ount] of Darling's prolonged absence ... lovely moonlit night but no sweetheart to enjoy it with.' Maud returns on the 13th, 'looking glorious' with a 'fascinating violet mistiness about the eyes.'
In his spare time, Leslie enjoys reading novels, taking photographs, and attending church. He and Maud also entertain friends and neighbours at Woodside, and pay frequent visits to Cheslyn Rise.
