Woodville Pioneer Museum: Lindauer Fascicle XI of "Algae Nova-Zelandicae Exsiccatae"

Topic

Overview

The Woodville Pioneer Museum donated their collection of Fascicle XI from the Algae Nova-Zelandicae Exsiccatae. This contains 24 specimens of marine macro-algae (or "seaweeds").  These can be viewed below.

Represented in Fascicle XI are species poorly represented in Te Papa's herbarium including Draparnaldia plumosa (only one other collection); Helminthocladia sp.; Gymnothamnion elegans; Hincksia granulosa; and Leathesia novae-zelandiae. The Leathesia novae-zelandiae specimen in Fascicle XI is also an isotype.

The Algae Nova-Zelandicae Exsiccatae is a collection of 14 fascicles each (originally) containing 25 sheets. Victor W. Lindauer created and distributed 60 sets of these between 1939 and 1953. Lindauer was New Zealand's seaweed expert of the time.
