George Leslie Adkin diary entry Monday 3 November 1919

Topic

Overview

Mon. Nov. 3

Too windy to bike to Waipukurau as planned so completed ^ 'topographical' survey of farm – took a series of levels with aneroid (based on Trig 696' at west end of farm). The Maharakeke Stm. is bordered by an extremely intricate series of terraces, and there are a number of cut off loops at several levels above the present meandering course of the stream. Where best developed the terraces of the Maharakeke are of the entrenched meander type being most numerous (up to 6) in the spurs of the built plain that project into the present loops of the stream. The higher terraces are composed of the reddish gravels of the built plain but the lowest terrace in the big meander below McSporan's house consists of fine grey silt. In pm collected some more fossils at site 2 on map of farm + made final corrections to the topography. In evening played chess with Mrs Herd.
