From observations made along the rly [railway] from Woodville to Takapau and also in the Hatuma district it is evident that the rivers and streams have recently been rejuvenated. The rejuvenation appears to be due to some cause, probably climatic, which affects the larger rivers more particularly, the tributary streams attaining the rejuvenated state in harmony with their trunks. Took a ½ pl[ate] photo (18) of family group alongside house showing garden + whare. A very hot day. Mrs Herd, Maud + Nancy drove me to Hatuma to catch the 10.50 am train – Winnie arrived by the same train to stay at the farm. Clare, Marjorie + Miss M. Morrison of Hawkes Bay met me with car – took them to ‘Taieri" [?] for pm. Tea – found all right + safe at Woodside – the 27 bullocks in 30 ac[re] looking very well – developed 11 of my H.B. photos in evening, very successfully.
