Drove up to Sonoma in cart taking my 80 lots of grass-seed. Sowed burned patches in Mill p[addock]. Split the hinau lengths sledged out on 8th inst[ant] into 10 heavy pasts + 6 light ones. Loaded 2 strainers + the 6 lights posts on to dray + took them down to Woodside collecting 10 tall live pungas + one black fern en route. On reaching home planted these tree ferns in Hollow Garden.
