Took Father's old trap + Bob + drove down to the 8.45 am train + met Mr A M Roberts, District Surveyor, + his chainman who are to survey the strip of land on hilltop at Sonoma. Drove them up to the

whare + then found I had forgotten the key. However, we put the swags thro' the window + then went up to the hilltop via spur in Narbey's. Showed Mr Roberts the peg at old NE corner of Sonoma + also the peg about 5 chns [chains] further up hill. At the latter he set up his theodolite + started account of having to take sights each way from all of the numerous angles in the east of the bdy [boundary] fence. By 5 pm they got as far as the junctions of the "1st" + "2nd burns". I drove home, got the whare key + rode up with it. Tidied up whare + got a fire going by the time they got down to whare. The survey will take 3 or 4 days.
