Rode up to Sonoma + pulled foxgloves on Leighton p[addock] for 6 1/4 h[ou]rs. Had a bad time

killing the tubercolose [sic] steer - shot him twice with shotgun with no effect - he took refuge in river + I followed him up + down for some time up to the waist - finally cut his throat in mid-stream. Took off the hide.
