Made a batten floodgate on Lancaster's Creek on Koputaroa Road, + improved the crossing over Cottles [sic] swampy creek in far 42. Finished digging tree-holes round orchard + in pm drove down

to Newport's + got balance of pine trees + planted, staked + watered them. In evening Father came over to see garden etc + my cattle. Lovely moonlit night. Read "Lorna Doone" by R. D. Blackmore.
