Drove to Levin + caught the 8.40 am train to Wellington to see dear Mother once more – we fear the end is drawing near. Reached Fern Hill about 2pm + found Clare in attendance on Mother who was sleeping + remained so all the time I was there except once when I tried to make my presence known, when she opened her eyes once + I think said “how are you?” Grandma + Mrs James came in while I was there.

Returned home by the 4.10 train, passing Father who was going down + had a few words with him.
