Anstice got news of his mother's illness so left for a few days. I rode up North Block to camp. Mustered 30 steers (plus 2 off Leighton p[addock]) off Mill p. to South end where there are already 2 others. Shepherded Leighton p. + saw 14 lambs on Trunk Spur + only 2 only [sic] Leighton Spur - ewes looking fairly well. Visited Grange in bush on hilltop - he has now nearly finished block between tops of Trunk + Leighton Spurs. Dinner at whare. Shepherded the south end + saw 58 lambs

- total with three on Mill p. = 77. Found a ewe cast while lambing (good lamb dead) on summit of Connecting Spur + after work carried her down to Ram p. Spent rest [of] afternoon putting in posts for 100 ac[re] p. east fence near Ohau Flat gate. Clear moonlight night.
