Father Anstice + I spent most of day moving + shepherding all flocks of ewes – found a large number of dead lambs. Continued levelling bank above main pipe-drain in CK p[addock] + fed out hay. There has been desperate fighting in France between the Allies + the Germans at Hirson, round Cambrai, + at Mauberge + Arras. Uhlans Were seen near Amiens. The Russians have invested Tilsit + Konigsberg in East Prussia + are advancing on Danzig – the Kaiser has withdrawn troops from France to combat the Russians. The Servians defeated the Austrians at Shabatz. Another Australian contingent is to go to the front. The Belgians have renewed hostilities + have driven

the Germans out of Malines + Louvain – the latter city was burned to ground by Germans.
