Overview
Wed. June. 3.
Drizzly rain but cleared away at 8. First of all we got six 15 ft [feet] lengths of 4x2 (old train-rails) + spiked them on the roof of my whare ready for putting on an iron roof. I did not take

off any of the old wooden roof as it was too rotten. Then we finished the lining the whare by covering the gap left in the gable of the roof with a strip of carpet tacked on to the cross-stays. This will do away with the cold draughts which comes in at night thro' holes under the eaves + which keeps the room very cold + causes the fire to burn out rapidly. After lunch we put in a couple of strainers for the sheep-yards. Left at 2.30 - on reaching home, changed + was driven to the station by Anstice. The coincidence of excursion rly [railway] fares + a lecture by the eminent physiographer, Professor W. M. Davis of Harvard University, on the Coral Reefs of Fiji, have decided me to attend the latter. Reached Wgton [Wellington] at 7.30 pm + found it was drizzling there. Took tram up to "Fern Hill". Recieved a warm welcome from Grandma + Aunt Edie.
