Father, Gil, Jim, Anstice + I rode up to North Block + pulled foxgloves till midday on Mill p[addock]. After dinner mustered 27 of the 30 steers on N Bl[oc]k (2 dead + 1 missing). While descending from West Low Hill to the Dirty Flat, we saw two wild pigs on latter, some 5 chains away. Gave chase on horseback keeping on track of one of them – it was nearly fagged at ford of Junction Creek – beyond this I dismounted + followed on foot – seeing me close behind, the pig plunged down terrace-face – I gained on it + drawing sheath-knife, drove it into the animals back + ripped making a slash a foot long + two inches deep. This made it think hard + turn on me but finally started off again. Being nearly exhausted it got tangled in fern + I finished it off by cutting its throat. It was a boar + measured 4ft 6 inches from snout to top of tail. On my way home Gil thought of a grand idea for position of front fence + main entrance gate to

North Block. We had through of two other plans but this third idea is excellent + wil be the scheme adopted, as per plan :–

Fencing schemes numbers (1), (2) + (3).
On reaching home, we drafted cattle into two lots : – 23 biggest to fatten on McDonald p. + 4 smaller to be sold shortly as stores. Laing has now nearly completed ploughing CK p. for turnips.
