About 10: am Father, Jim + I rode forward along Arapaepae Road to meet the Palmerston bullocks – the drover A Farlane brought along a mob of 128, 48 of which were outs – these had their tails cut so we were able to draft easily. Father’s share of the droving fee was 28/-, about 6d per head. The bullocks were very big + a great bargain at £5.18.0. We drafted our 48 into: 12 biggest + oldest to go on McDonald p[addock].; 12 next oldest

irrespective of breed + size to go into 10 ac[re] p. + Gravel pit p.; + 24 remaining (principally 3yr olds) to go on Terrace p. In evening cycled down to Century Hall to annual Congregational At-Home of our church – called at Kawiu Rd for Maud but found she had gone – met her at Hall + spent a most pleasant time with her. The programme consisted of musical items + reports + finally supper. Maud played a violin solo – she looked lovely in the light fawn or cream dress faced with purple flowered silk. Afterwards we walked home together + had another heavenly time at front gate.
