Up at 6.30am. Caught Fanny + rode up Ohau Valley with camera –took following photographs: – (1) The Ohau R from 1st cutting looking up stream to

[Makeretu] junction – sun shining on water – 1/50 sec exposure with 16 stop – took this for a moonlight effect. (2) Panorama of North Block + part of South Block etc from spur of Arapaepae Range above Makahika junction. (3) The felled bush on the hilltop North Block from the top of Leighton’s spur looking north. (4) The bush on the hilltop NB before being felled. (5) The bush line – the east boundary of the hilltop block of bush. (6) Bird’s eye view of the Mill p[addock] NB, from a spur in Mr Styles farm, just beyond the boundary of NB. I found the foxgloves on Leighton p. to be just coming into bud – there are thousands of them. Home to dinner. Miss Hurley came up to tea. Cycled to church + sat with Maud. Walked back to Kawiu Road with her after service, Will riding the bike. A lovely moonlit night – spent a while with her at front gate, she shyly struggling to get away from me +

declaring when I pointed out the fact that she wasn’t. She lent me to read a little story she has composed for a competition entitled “Molly’s Deficiency”. I found it very clever, well-written + bright quite an achievement.
