Put 18 steers (some of the big badly-bred lot) + 11 heifers on turnip shells in CK p[addock]. Stumping + clearing in swamp in SE corner of CK p. In afternoon drove mother to Lake [Horowhenua?] + back to try a new trap-horse belonging to Mr JW Gibson with view to purchase – very quiet 4 yr old + good trotter but apparently lacking in endurance – this however maybe due to change from hand feed to grass during last few days.
