Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father’s property Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. Leslie often works on the farm with two labourers, Jim and Anstice. His father and younger brother Gil (Gilbert) also work on the farm.
Farming activities this month include fencing, drenching, crutching and moving stock onto winter feed. Leslie also attends local stock sales and starts building a tool shed.
Leslie continues to court Maud Herd, whom he visits at her family’s home in Bruce Road, in Levin. However, this month, Maud delivers bad news about an impending separation.
In his spare time Leslie reads novels, attends parties, concerts, and lectures, and visits friends. On several occasions he goes roller skating and continues his interest in photography. Leslie also worships regularly at church.
During the month, Leslie continues to be involved in the campaign to reduce the majority needed to implement the prohibition of alcohol from 60% to 55% or lower.
Snow falls on the nearby Tararua Ranges and the weather is cold.
