Recognition:

  • relatively large, black, plastic-like scales occur at the base of the stipes.
  • the tertiary pinnae are lobed.
  • the trunk is comparatively narrow.
  • bare parts of the stipes are often distinctly green.
  • small white scales are common on the undersides of the smaller axes of the frond, along with white hairs.

Distribution: in forest throughout Fiji.  Widespread elsewhere in the Pacific, including Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, and the Cook Islands.
