Overview
Wardle & Co was one of several English art potteries whose work was showcased in the New Zealand International Exhibition. Its display earned it a silver medal. The company was a supplier to English department store Liberty & Co.
This vase is similar to those exhibited at the 1906-07 New Zealand International Exhibition by Christchurch retailer John Bates & Co. The name of the fashionable art-nouveau flower pattern, sweeping diagonally across the blue glaze, is ‘Hadcote’.
