Overview
James Bragge was a photographer in Wellington from the mid-1860s to the early 1900s. He is best known for his large-format views of Wellington and of the route through to the Wairarapa. He made the photographs he took between 1876 and 1878 on the Wairarapa route into an album, New Zealand scenery: Wellington to the Wairarapa. The albums were individually made, each holding about 50 photographs, but with slight differences in the actual images included. How many albums were made by Bragge is unknown, but a total of six are known to be held in public and private collections today, including this copy.
