Extinct birds in the recent bird skeleton collection

Extinct birds represented by complete or partial skeletons include New Zealand merganser, bush wren, Chatham Island bellbird, South Island kōkako, huia, and North Island and South Island piopio. No other museum is known to hold historical skeletal material of the Chatham Island bellbird.
