Overview
Brake's series of photgoraphs on Pablo Picasso wasn't an assignment, but simply a chance event. Brake had been holidaying in the south of France and found that Picasso was attending a small bullfight held in his honour. Instead of photographing the main spectacle – the bullfight – Brake steadfastly focused on Picasso and his party, knowing that this was the more likely subject to sell.
The photograph of Picasso's son with his hand in his father's mouth in a moment of anxiety was one of Brake’s first significant publishing successes. It appeared in Life, Paris Match, Stern, and The Times.
