Lollard Street Adventure Playground

Topic

Overview

One of Brake’s early assignments was a charming series of photographs of the Lollard Adventure Playground in South London. This was a fenced-off piece of vacant land where children could play in an unstructured way under the watchful eye of a supervisor. Brake’s work epitomised the approach of photojournalists of the time, who aimed to produce the illusion that they were an invisible witness to the world.
