Overview
A French knot here, a chain stitch there; running stitch, back stitch, ladder and satin stitch - not a tongue twister or the lyrics to a nursery rhyme, but the language of the embroiderer.
Once upon a time, embroidery was the exclusive domain of royal courts - but not anymore. Embroidered details adorn everything - from clothes for special occasions - such as a wedding dress - to everyday items - such as initials on hankies.
Learning hand embroidery is a skill that takes patience - and its application takes time. Alas, not even the craft of embroidery has been able to flee the march of technology. With the invention of machine embroidery, the push of a button is all it takes to replicate the intricate, patterns painstakingly created by our grandmothers.
