Douglas Goldman's collection of North American plants

Topic

Overview

In 2010, Te Papa acquired, through herbarium exchange, 152 plant specimens collected by Douglas Goldman in North America, between May 2005 - October 2009. These specimens were donated to serve as reference material for the North American flora. It is likely that duplicates of some of these specimens may also be at other herbaria, including Cornell University (BH) and Harvard University (GH).

The 152 specimens are mounted on 171 sheets, the majority of which are embryophytes. Included in the collection are three lichens, three mosses and two ferns. The specimens were largely collected in the USA, from 20 different states, but six were collected in Mexico and five from Canada. There are 47 plant families, 110 genera, and 151 different species represnted in this collection.

The Douglas Goldman specimens were mounted, databased and imaged by Te Papa Botany volunteer, Bianca Ruta, in 2023.

Images of all specimens can be seen below.
