Brilliantly fine day. In pm we drove to Ohau R.[iver] in Varham’s big bend below head of water-races + found it a delightful spot. The bit of bush with nice grassy sward sloping to river is hard to beat + no less than four tuis sang within a 50yard circle of us. The children paddled. 1/2pl. photos (1) of river cliffs + bush with Maud with Jap.[anese] parasol. (2) Group of manaku fern-trees. (3) Gravel cliff with Maud + children from top of cliff. We also saw one of the dark metallic-blue wasps drag a big spider a distance of 13yards across logs + other obstacles.
