Another clear day but cold. Rode to top of Arapaepae Ridge via Gimblett’s spur + took 1/2pl[ate]. photos (1) Mt. [Mount] Dundas Ridge (telephoto with [Whatten?] screen) (2) the same without screen (3) + (4) Panorama of plain (Ohau Fan) from present course of river to Levin + Queen St (with [Whatten?] screen) (5) + (6)

The same without screen. I took these for test purposes to ascertain value of screen. In afternoon Mr. + Mrs. Lancaster + Mr. + Mrs. E.W.F. Smith + Ross called in on their way to Denton’s + I took 1/2pl. photos (1) Mr. Smith + Ross (2) Group of the five visitors – both views down in hollow using sheet shade to keep off brilliant sun. Later Maud + I + Nancy + Clyde visited Stewarts for an hour or two. This morning there was a remarkably heavy white frost.
