Rain continued during night + continued off + on during morning. Elsdon got Mr. L. + self our breakfast in bed after 12 hours rest during which Elsdon slept well + us only intermittently. During lull in weather we climbed stunted beech trees + got a good view of Mangahao Valley, surrounding ridges + the Horowhenua Plain. Fog on crest of Dundas Ridge + heavier rain came on so we rested under fly which kept out the weather well. During afternoon went down side of spur on north side of camp + took photo (3) of clumps of [inter?] cabbage trees in area of sub-alpine scrub. Renewed our water supply from gully – tea round camp fire – fog on [inter.?] tops + thick sky.
