Overview
Thurs. Oct. 20.
Dull day + hazy out west. Maud, children + I set out in gig, after early dinner, at 12:30 to drive down to “Forest Lakes” to pay a long deferred call on the Simcoxes. Arrived at the old homestead at 2:15 + were warmly welcomed by Miss Simcox. Old Mr Simcox + a friend, an elderly lady named Miss Craver were also present but Mrs Simcoe snr was unfortunately confined to her bed with a severe cold. Miss Simcox supplied Nancy + Clyde with toys which kept them occupied in the large dining-room for the rest of the p.m. Miss Simcox took Maud + I up to the balcony to see Lake Waitawa but it was not so pretty as on a bright day. Maud + I then visited Ledgemere + the Heart Lake + I took a 1/2 pl[ate]. (1) of the latter showing reflections. Returned to the house for pm tea. + then Miss Simcox drove Maud + I past Lake Waitawa to Lake Kopureherehe. Unfortunately there was a

drizzly rain falling so the lakes did not look their best but I took a 1/2 pl[ate] photo (2) of Lake Kopureherehe looking west + showing Maud + Miss S. in gig. Here we met Mr Selwyn Simcox + a man with a team of horses. Returned to the house + a little later about 5:20 pm - we left for home after a very pleasant visit. The weather got worse + the nearer we got to house + going up Queen Street we had to face a raging easterly gale + driving rain. However got home fairly dry + turned in early.
