Mon. May. 10.
Another fine day but a little hazy. Settled up at hotel + [and] left by slow 9.30am [morning] train. My room-mate, Moody, travelled by same train. Arrived Waipukurau at 11.15 – hired a push-bike + rode along to + climbed trig stn. [station] 827' [feet] near Mt. [Mount] Herbert. Took 1/2 pl.[ate] photo (4) looking up the Tukituki
[page break]
River to its watergap, showing Ruahines, Waipukurau + in foreground the hummocky hills of chalk marls. Reached trig at 11.45 + had a snack. Returned to Waipuk.[urau] + then rode out to Lindsay Settlement. Climbed spur above Waipawa Mati[?] Road + took 1/2 pl. panorama (5+ 6) of Waipuk., Hatuma Lake, Tukituki River, Turiri High Dome +c [etc]. Returned to Waipuk. – visited Leviathan Hotel + got permission to use bathroom to change clothes. Caught the mail train to Hastings at 4.20 + found darling Maud awaiting me on rly. [railway] stn. Walked along to Mr Herd's new house in Avenue Road – Nancy + Clyde up to see me + it was very funny + delightful to see the two little things running about together + looking so well + healthy. Maud is looking much better but still not quite satisfactory – she is the divinest little wife imaginable + I'd do anything to get her strong + bouncing. Returned after a pleasant evening with the family to blissful reunion once more.
