Overview
The identification of mature indigenous tree and shrub species is a challenge for many. How about the identification of seedlings? With a reduction of possible characteristics, this can be even more problematic.
Te Papa Botany Curator Leon Perrie engaged the assistance of Eleanor Burton from Otari/Wilson's Bush to collect seedlings of indigenous plants.
Eleanor identified, collected and mounted 64 seedling specimens for Te Papa's collection.
Examples of each species are dispayed in as 'related objects' below. This provides another identification resource to help botanists, gardners and restoration ecologists to identify indigenous seedlings more acurately.
