Botany Collection Storage: Improving Archival Materials

Topic

Overview

Herbarium staff are constantly changing systems, practices, and materials to incorporate international best practice knowledge.

This includes establishing correct humidity, removing historical non-archival quality material and introducing archival, acid-free materials to improve the longevity of herbarium specimens.

Work such as removing cellophane bags and introducing archival tissue is carried out by herbarium staff as specimens are handled for other purposes such as research, imaging or loaning to other institutions.

The "Related Objects" images below illustrate some of these improvements.
